Invisalign straightens teeth using a series of clear, removable plastic aligners. Each set moves your teeth a small amount, until they reach the planned position. Because the aligners are clear, most people won’t notice you’re wearing them.
What can Invisalign treat?
- Crowded teeth
- Gaps between teeth
- Mild to moderate overbites, underbites and crossbites
- Teeth that have moved after previous braces
Very complex cases may still be better suited to fixed braces. Your dentist will advise after an assessment.
How treatment works
- Assessment: your teeth are examined and scanned.
- Treatment plan: a digital plan shows how your teeth will move, and a preview of the expected result.
- Aligners: you receive a series of aligners and change to a new set every one to two weeks.
- Check-ups: regular visits to monitor progress.
- Retainers: once treatment is finished, retainers keep your teeth in their new position.
Wearing your aligners
For the teeth to move as planned, aligners need to be worn for 20 to 22 hours a day. Take them out to eat and drink anything other than water, and brush your teeth before putting them back in.
Benefits
- Nearly invisible
- Removable for eating and cleaning
- No metal brackets or wires
- Fewer emergency visits for broken parts
